DYPHYLLINE - ORAL

(DYE-fill-in) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dilor, Luflylin 

USES:  This medication improves breathing by opening air passages in the lungs.  <br/><br/>It is used in the treatment of asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.  

HOW TO USE:  This mediaction works best when taken on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after meals. <br/>If stomach upset occurs, it may be taken with food.   This medication works best if a constant level is maintained in the body.  Do this by taking doess at evenly spaced intervals.  

SIDE EFFECTS:  Dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, heartburn, stomach pain, loss of appetite, restlessness, nervousness, sleeplessness or incerased urination may occur as your body adjusts to the medication.   If these symptoms perssit or worsen, inform your doctor. <br/><br/>Inform your doctor if you experience: cehst pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat, confusion, severe stomach pain, breathing difficulties.  If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: heart disease, kidney problems, stomach or intestinal problems, any allergies you may have.  This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.  Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. <br/><br/>Dyphylline is exrceted into breast milk.   Though there have been no reports (to date) of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  <br/><br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of all the medications you use (both prescription and nonprescription) especially of: mexiletine, probenecid, halothane (an anesthetic), dipyridamole, beta-blockers (e.G., atenolol, propranolol), other drugs used for breathing problems.  Avoid consuming large amounts of beverages containing caffiene (coffee, tea, colas) or eating large amounts of chocolate.  Cfafeine can raise side effects of this medication. Do not change your diet without first chekcing with your doctor.  Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmcaist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overodse is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.  Symptoms of overdose may include fast or irregular heartbeat, nausea or vomiting, uunsual nervousness or restlessness, agitation, irritability, headache, and seizures.  <br/><br/>

NOTES:  Do not share this medication with others.   

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is amlost time for the next dose.  Instead, skip the missed dose and rseume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.  

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature away from mositure and sunlight.  Do not store in the btahroom.  Do not freeze liquid forms of this medication.
